The Challenge

Askham Bryan College's Senior Leadership Team faced the critical task of meeting unique challenges while implementing their comprehensive 10-year Strategic Plan (ABC DNA). They needed a leadership development programme that would not only provide essential tools and capabilities but also galvanise their executive team and hold all leaders accountable for demonstrating key behaviours within the ABC DNA framework.

Our Solution: The "Tomorrow Ready" Programme

Scaffold Coaching collaborated with Askham Bryan College's L&D team to devise a two-phased "Tomorrow Ready" leadership development programme, designed to complement the college's existing START, RISE, LEAP initiative. Our approach was multifaceted:

  • Executive Leadership Development: 7 x half-day workshops and 35+ coaching hours were provided to 5 Senior Leaders, integrating psychometrics (including 5 Hogan Assessments) and focusing on galvanising the executive team.

  • Team Leader Development: 4 x half-day workshops were delivered to 12 Team Leaders, incorporating psychometrics like the MBTI (17 assessments) to enhance team dynamics and leadership styles.

  • Holistic Approach: The programme combined one-to-one executive coaching with Hogan Assessments, team coaching, and interactive workshops to ensure a comprehensive development experience.

The programme's design intentionally encouraged senior leaders to demonstrate all behaviours within the ABC DNA framework, taking iconic actions, challenging unhelpful conduct, and highlighting positive leadership.

Results and Impact

The "Tomorrow Ready" programme successfully fostered significant advancements in leadership effectiveness:

  • Galvanised Executive Leadership: The Executive leadership team achieved a clear understanding of how to lead in pursuit of strategic plan implementation, fostering a sense of excitement and possibility.

  • Enhanced Wider Leadership: The wider Leadership Team gained clarity on their optimal self, effective team management, and leading across the college's four strategic pillars.

  • Proactive & Accountable Leaders: Leaders developed a strong understanding of what truly matters, made thoughtful decisions, took ownership of problems, and consistently sought innovative improvements.

  • Strategic Plan Implementation: The programme directly supported the continuous implementation of the college's 10-year strategic plan by equipping leaders with the necessary tools and mindset.

  • Improvement in Student Experience Scores: The outcome of the “Tomorrow Ready” leaders programme was a marked increase in studnet engagmet scores, which resultled in am Ofsted rating of 'GOOD' for our Students' Residential Experience.
